Last year, we created The Crystal Slayton Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the life and legacy of Crystal Slayton, a devoted volunteer, mentor, and champion for youth sports within the Owings Mills Recreation community. Crystal served faithfully as Secretary and Soccer Commissioner, pouring her time, heart, and leadership into the development of young athletes; her commitment never wavered.
Our mission is to carry forward her spirit of service by investing in graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated dedication both on and off the field. We award scholarships to students who have actively participated in Owings Mills Recreation programs, maintained strong academic performance, and reflected thoughtfully on how youth sports shaped their growth, discipline, and character.
What began as two $500 scholarships in 2025, grew into a broader community effort. In our first year, we awarded six seniors with $1,500 each to support their college journeys. See pictures of our 2025 recipients below.
Through the generosity of donors, we aim to continue increasing our impact, easing financial burdens, and empowering student athletes to pursue higher education with confidence. Crystal’s legacy lives on through every scholar we support.
